How to Evaluate Your Art and Enter Your Best Work for a Juried Art Show
(or How NOT to frustrate gallery owners or jurors so you can have a very real shot at an award)
By Allen L. Clapp Owner of 311 Gallery, 311 West Martin Street, Raleigh NC
Allen Clapp is an artist and owner of 311 Gallery, 311 West Martin Street, Raleigh NC. He serves as a juror and his gallery holds several juried art shows each year. Allen will share with us issues that have prevented art from being invited into a show or prevented it from being considered for an award as well as the positive side: what made particular works of art rise to the top and gain an award.
He will first discuss how to determine what of your work is best suited to the show and how to select pieces of your work that will increase the probability of being invited into a juried art show. Then he will share the types of issues that jurors consider when selecting work from the show for the awards.
Along the way, Allen will discuss pricing issues, title issues, packing and shipping issues, and framing issues that can affect your success.
